Secular Week of Action (SWoA) unites compassionate communities to organize service events based on shared values, connect volunteers to impactful projects in their neighborhoods and online, and celebrate what we can achieve together. Support each other in building a more empathetic and just society for all.
SWoA 2025 is Friday, April 25 to Sunday, May 4! For ten days each year—encompassing the National Day of Reason on May 4th and the National Day of Prayer on the first Thursday of May—the secular movement rallies together to organize and join inclusive responses that address social problems and promote the welfare of humankind.
Take Action!
Use our planning guide and below action ideas to organize events that make needed change.
Organize a Supply Drive and Distribution
Providing food and basic needs to unhoused and food insecure people directly supports their health and well-being. Find out from the beneficiaries about their needs so you can collect the most useful items. See Supply Drive Guide and search for a shelter or Feeding America food bank in your area.
Clean Up a Park or Highway
Cleanups are easy service events for all ages and can be done anywhere: parks, highways, streams, beaches, etc. See our Park Cleanup Guide for tips.
Build a Free Little Library or Pantry
Free little libraries and pantries provide access to essential resources throughout the community. See our Free Little Library or Pantry Guide, plus the Little Free Pantry website and the Little Free Library website for more resources.
Plant a Tree or Community Garden
Trees and community gardens help green your community, restore native plants, and provide needed nuttrients. See our Plant a Tree Guide and Community Garden Guide.
Craft for Good
Crafters can support people by making needed items (like sleeping mats, hats, gloves, socks, blankets, toys, etc.) and donating them directly or through local shelters, hospitals, senior centers, etc. See our Craft for Good Guide that includes craft ideas.
Donate Blood
Your group can sign up to donate individually or organize a blood drive. See our Blood Drive Guide to organize a donation event.
Get Out The Vote and Advocate
Help people register to vote, know where to go, and understand which issues will be on their ballots. Share your knowledge on issues you care about and encourage people to sign petitions from Humanist Action Headquarters.
